Vågfjellet is located south of the Norway-Sweden border road and southeast of Røssvatnet towards Sweden. The mountain is a neighbor to Hatten in the south, which has given Hattfjelldal municipality its name. To the north lies Krutfjellet. The terrain is distinctly mountainous and has gentle mountain areas that extend up to 1049 meters above sea level.
